BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
She wakes up on Christmas morning and stumbles out of bed to check on the kids. Her husband is already awake and showered. She puts the children’s clothes on the bed with everything they need so her husband knows what goes where and on who and readies herself for her turn in the shower.
When she gets out of the shower she finds her husband and kids eating the muffins she made the night before. Baby is covered in blueberries, Middle Child has muffin up her nose somehow, 2nd Boy is rolling his eyes at the whole thing and Oldest Boy is on one of his tech gadgets. Sigh. Baby sees her Mama and offers Mama the rest of her muffin with a big blueberry grin. Sigh. How do you stay irritated at that smile?
Everyone is clean and getting dressed. Second Boy has his button down shirt, pants, shoes, and even a bow tie(because bow ties are cool)on ready to go and starts to pester Oldest Boy. Middle Child has her dress on. She refused the traditional green or red and chose a deep sapphire blue. Baby wanted a deep purple dress, in velvet, my sweet Amethyst girl. Middle child has even put a tutu on the dog. Sigh.
She sends the children to go read or play with whatever won’t get them dirty. She needs to put the finishing touches up before everyone arrives. Everything is bright and decked out, presents under the tree, mulling spices on the stove, pies in the oven making everything smell amazing. Husband is salting the sidewalks and then will keep the kids occupied.
Knock Knock Knock! Welp, first guests are here. She opens the door to find basically the whole family came at the same time!
Everyone is gathered around to open presents.
Knock Knock Knock! Who in the world is this? In comes walking her dad! The kids can not contain themselves that their Papa has come as a surprise!
After she calms them all down she tells the kids to go check the back porch because she thought she heard something during the night out there. Squeals come from the back of the house and the children come in running with the Santa gifts. The rest is a blur of tearing paper, boxes being torn and kids running around showing everyone what they got.
They all sit down to eat. Baby has gotten sweet potatoes in her hair. How does this happen?! Sigh. Oh well, she’ll wash up just fine. She looks around the table at her family. Laughing. Talking. And she smiles.
With everyone’s bellies full she puts a movie on for all the kids and the adults open their gifts, which also turns into a blur of ripped paper and torn boxes. Hey, even adults get excited!
The family starts to leave and they say their goodbyes.
Now that everything is calm she gets the kids into their new jammies and she slips in her favorite Christmas movie. The California Raisins Christmas! Her husband shakes his head, and the kids all giggle at the “olden” movie.
The children are tucked into their beds. She goes to the living room to sit and chat with her dad and husband and after they finally go to bed. She lays in bed thinking about the day and falls asleep with a smile on her face.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
I wake up. I get up. There are no children to check on. No dresses or button down shirts to pull out of the closet. No Santa gifts to have put out on the porch. So I sit with my dog and wish that the dream would finally, someday come true.
