I can’t say I’ve regularly read the Bible before or that I’m an overly religious person.
You could call me a “recovering Catholic” as I grew up with a strict Filipino father where we went to weekly mass and prayed the rosary; I was an altar server and went to CCD classes at our church. Needless to say, my relationship with God has been a fledgling one.
However, I do truly believe in a higher power and an after life, and that my baby, Emmett, is an angel looking over us from above. Since losing our son, I’ve grown closer to my biological mother who has a strong relationship to the Lord. I admire how she can put all of her trust and faith into something that we can’t see or feel. Because of her, I began reading the Bible daily, or attempt to. I’m sure I don’t read it perfectly or even the “correct” way, if that is such a thing.
Reading these bible quotes is something that has helped to provide some meaning, and offered me strength and hope in the aftermath of a loss.
I totally understand how some people after losing a child or pregnancy can be angry with God and want to distance themselves. Yet, I have found these words bestow a comforting shield that surround me when many of those merciless questions of “Why us?” and “Why my baby?” haunt my brain. I feel safe, loved, and hopeful.
