Recently there have been 2 pieces of literature with a theme of wanting us to let you know we see you. We support you and we are here to hold you up. You can read both pieces here and here. The first is by Angela Miller, a writer here at Still Standing, and will become a gift book; how awesome is that?! The second is from Stephanie Dyer, also a Still Standing author.
You are probably wondering my point by now. Well, I want YOU to see you. To see you in your pain, your grief, your sadness; see you in all that ugly. It’s hard, I know. Most days I don’t even see all of me but others do. The person others describe seems like a stranger, yet it is me. I’m sure you may know that feeling.
This year instead of a resolution I chose a word. Focusing on a word to become or work on seems less like a recipe to fail. I chose the word “brave”. I have so many people tell me how brave I am and of course I just don’t see it because I don’t see the same me. So this year I want to see the bravery that others see in me.
I want you to know how brave you all are. For some just getting out of bed will be the bravest thing they do in a day, for others going to work knowing they will see babies, families, and pregnant bellies is one hell of a brave thing. For another woman, it may be telling a loved one, “No.” No to holding a baby, or no to going to a family event because her heart can’t take it. Or, maybe it is saying “Yes?” Yes I’m going to finally take that class or go to an event out of the norm.
Your brave is there, I promise, even if it’s such a tiny glimmer. It’s there.
Do any of you want to join in on finding a word that you want to work toward? Need ideas? Here are some:
Patience, frugal, intimacy, family, relax, focus, grace, leadership….
Hope those help and I would love to hear what your word may be if you are joining me in this!
Each article I submit I will have a little bit of brave attached in some form so I leave you with the following quote and for some it may sting. I don’t mean for it to but once you get past that sting, read it again and go find some of your brave.
