About the book:

Grief is messy. And this is one place you won’t need any explanations for just how messy it is.

These pages you hold in your hands have been three years in the making, and is evidence of the aftermath that happens when grief and love collide. This is a creative workshop, but like any sensible art teacher, I have an obligation to admit that creativity is born of experience and necessity, not talent. You have survived the impossible. You are living a nightmare. You have done the hard part. This part – the living through the aftermath – is the second hardest thing you will ever do.
If at any time you simply cannot go through with a prompt or finish a task in the workshop, step back, take a breath and listen to your heart. Grief is some of the hardest work you will ever do.

Grief is the price we pay for love and it is one we pay so willingly.
But grief is also work.

Whether two weeks or twenty years has gone by, grief has a way of finding a place and time in your life to summon your full attention. It demands to be felt. Because love is forever, so is grief.

This workshop is not about finding a way out of grief, but a healthy way into it.
Every prompt has been specifically designed to help you actively, intentionally work through your grief. It is designed to help you take control, recognize your grief patterns, new loves, tastes, and basic humanity that feels charred in the aftermath of losing a child. It includes hands-on and practical applications including art therapy, art journaling, basic journaling, self-care ideas, affirmations, words of encouragement and much more.

You might be two months or twenty years into your grief, but as we all know, grief has a way of rising up at the most unexpected moment. Grief leaves no one unscathed, and is no more predictable than the weather.

Facets of Grief is a workshop that allows you to dive into all stages of grief, specific to that of losing a child.

Facets of Grief is about finding your breath again in this life, finding what makes you inhale love, and ready to exhale all that does not serve you in your healing process. It honors your timeline, and realizes that each situation is as unique as fingerprints. No two stories – in spite of any parallels – are the same. This workshop is personal. It is not about achieving the same outcome for each person, but guiding you toward a path of intentional living, however that might look to you. It is also a workshop that is centered around learning to love yourself, care for yourself and trust yourself again. Loss cripples so much more than what lets on outwardly, and ripples into our lives infinitely.
My hope in writing this creative workbook is to help you discover new tools or guide you to some old and forgotten ones along the way. May these creative tools help you assess, express and discover what makes your soul come alive in spite of it all.

You, your story, your love and your pain are worth it all.
